What are the parts of an AC unit?

parts of an ac unit

A split central air conditioner has two halves. Outside sits the condenser unit, which contains the compressor (pressurizes refrigerant and drives the cycle), the condenser coil (releases heat to the outdoor air), the condenser fan, the contactor, and the run capacitor. Inside, usually with your furnace or air handler, is the evaporator coil (absorbs heat from your indoor air), the blower motor (pushes cooled air through the ducts), and a metering device such as a TXV. Connecting the two are the copper refrigerant lines (a large insulated suction line and a smaller liquid line), plus the condensate drain that carries away moisture. The thermostat tells the whole system when to run. When any one of these parts fails, the others can be affected, which is why an accurate diagnosis matters. Questions about your system?
