We use flat-rate pricing on every repair. You get a written quote before we touch anything, and the number we quote is the number you pay. No hourly labor surprises. Here's what the most common AC repairs cost in Los Angeles. Capacitor replacement runs $240–$300. Contactor replacement is $250–$350.
Fan motor replacement falls between $400–$700. Refrigerant recharge costs $300–$600 depending on the amount needed and refrigerant type. Thermostat replacement or rewiring runs $150–$400 depending on the unit.
Bigger repairs like compressor replacement ($1,500–$2,500) or evaporator coil replacement ($1,500–$3,500) cost more. When we get into that range, we have an honest conversation about whether repair or replacement makes more financial sense for your situation. We're not going to push you into a new system if a repair gives you another five to ten years.
Our service call fee is $99. That covers the trip and a full diagnosis. Approve the repair, and the $99 disappears, you only pay for the fix. Decline the repair, and you walk away with an honest answer about your system for $99. No pressure.
Check your thermostat. Make sure it's set to "cool" and not "heat" or "off." Set it at least 3 degrees below the current room temperature.
Check your air filter. Pull it out and hold it up to the light. If you can't see through it, it's clogged. A completely blocked filter can cause the evaporator coil to freeze, which shuts the system down. Replace it
Check your breaker panel. Look for a tripped breaker labeled "AC," "HVAC," or "air handler." Flip it fully off, then back on. If it trips again immediately, stop, that means there's an electrical issue that needs a technician.
Check the outdoor unit. Walk outside and look at the condenser. Is it running? Is the fan spinning? If it's running but the fan isn't spinning, the fan motor may be dead.

Sometimes the honest answer is that your AC isn't worth repairing. If your system is 15-20 years old and needs a compressor or evaporator coil, you're looking at $2,000-$3,500 in repairs on equipment that could fail again next summer.
At that point, replacement is the smarter investment.
We handle full AC replacements and heat pump installations across Los Angeles. LADWP customers in the San Fernando Valley and LA area can currently qualify for $3,000–$5,500 in heat pump rebates. We handle permits, inspections, and all the rebate paperwork.
$99 covers the trip and full diagnosis. If you approve the repair, we waive the $99, you only pay for the repair itself.
