Your AC has two coils, and they do opposite jobs. The evaporator coil sits indoors, usually on top of or inside your furnace or air handler. Cold refrigerant runs through it, absorbs heat and humidity from the air your blower pushes across it, and that is what makes your vents blow cold. The condenser coil sits outdoors inside the big metal unit. There, the refrigerant that picked up all that indoor heat is squeezed by the compressor and the heat is released into the outside air by the condenser fan. The refrigerant then loops back inside to do it again. Knowing the difference matters for repairs: a frozen indoor coil usually points to low refrigerant or airflow problems, while a dirty outdoor coil makes the compressor overheat and run inefficiently. Both should be cleaned during maintenance. Need a coil checked? Call LA Heating & Air at (818) 660-1062.
